Dogs’ keen senses are amazing! When I walk my dog - an energetic creature - it amazes me that she sees and runs to check all sorts of small objects. Her response seems to be “this is not a natural part of these surroundings.” A tiny scrap of light-colored paper in the grass. A cigarette butt on the edge of the street. A fallen limb on the bare ground.
Whatever she spots, a run/sniff appraisal follows. Quickly executed, she seems to need to satisfy her curiosity. Or maybe rule out the possibility of something edible...
