Never take counsel of your fears.

Andrew Jackson

There is a time to take counsel of your fears, and there is a time to never listen to any fear.

Everything can be this; everything can be that?

Patton’s quote is better.

I was just trying to point out that there seem to be many similar quotes about fear. There was one other Patton quote about fear that is much longer,

I like the quote. When my wife was doing research on the life of Jackie Cochran, she interviewed Chuck Yeager who was a contemporary of Jackie. During the interview he commented that when entering an enclosed space his first thoughts were to position himself in the best spot to escape! I could consider that as taking counsel of his fears? Or just good soldiering? A character in a Castaneda book advised, “Let death be your advisor.” Pema Chodron asserted that first accepting one’s own mortality was required to be comfortable with uncertainty. So to me it seems that fear requires a clear definition to identify the conditions that aren’t fear. Self preservation; using one’s finite lifetime wisely; recognizing and resolving our fear of dying. Please pass the tiny-tipped brush and some yellow paint. Cowardice color?

Is there a difference between strategic thinking/awareness and fear based thinking? I doubt Yeager took counsel of his fears. What do you think? What story do you tell yourself?

MLK Jr. said something like… Once I found I could be okay with death, I could be okay with all else. Picked that up in The Rise by Sarah Lewis.

Defining our words is like untangling charger cords!

Thanks for your thought provoking comment Gary!

Now I’m going to go look up McCaffrey. Did he have a need for speed, too?

P.S. The yellow paint is for sunshine only. 😂 And maybe bananas.

Have you ever met a cardinal named Ernie?

Not that I'm aware of. I searched "Ernie Cardinal" and found a person who offers his Native/Canadian help to folks with co-occurring disorders. Addiction and mental health diagnosis like schizophrenia. Is that close?

More like split personality disorder. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think we should leave this here. 😂
