I like the quote. When my wife was doing research on the life of Jackie Cochran, she interviewed Chuck Yeager who was a contemporary of Jackie. During the interview he commented that when entering an enclosed space his first thoughts were to position himself in the best spot to escape! I could consider that as taking counsel of his fears? Or just good soldiering? A character in a Castaneda book advised, “Let death be your advisor.” Pema Chodron asserted that first accepting one’s own mortality was required to be comfortable with uncertainty. So to me it seems that fear requires a clear definition to identify the conditions that aren’t fear. Self preservation; using one’s finite lifetime wisely; recognizing and resolving our fear of dying. Please pass the tiny-tipped brush and some yellow paint. Cowardice color?
Never take counsel of your fears.
Andrew Jackson
There is a time to take counsel of your fears, and there is a time to never listen to any fear.
General George S Patton
