“Honestly! Sometimes Typist’s thoughts are as slow as a 4–cylinder… What she might have said is something like… ‘I’m so grateful to live in a time and place where people can disagree and work together toward solutions,’… instead she said… NOTHING.”
“She did think about asking a question… to redirect people’s minds away from the uncomfortable conversation they’d found themselves in… Did it start with fuel prices?” asked Calliope.
Thalia scratched absently at her hairline. “Ummm… Aren’t we Typist’s thinkers?”
“That’s beside the point,” Urania grumbled. “The point is she… or, we… did not arrive at our gently provocative statement until… oh bother!… It took almost 24 hours.”
“And that’s why we write.”
When there is a radical revolution in the very nature of thought, feeling, and action, then obviously there will be a change in the structure of society. ~J. Krishnamurti
Thought provoking exchange! JK’s quote speaks to Zeitgeist, one definition of which is “the general intellectual, moral, and cultural climate of an era.” In most cases we don’t alter the Zeitgeist of our time. Rather, we are molded by and conform to the prevailing Zeitgeist.
One example of how one individual’s thoughts and behaviors did alter the Zeitgeist for an entire nation is that of Mohandas Gandhi. “Satyagraha” references Gandhi’s methods of passive resistance to British rule/dominion over India. Later, MLK, Jr. and others in the civil rights movement here in the 60s advocated for a similar approach to effect change.
JK himself acknowledged that his remarks were “obvious” yet I’d wager a couple nickels that a vast majority of humankind today are not cognizant of that construct.
And based on today’s image, I thought we might hear about some philosophy from “Herbie The Love Bug” and how Calliope’s sides nearly split from laughter! 🤔
Isn't the K quote kind of a blinding flash of the obvious?
