Most days I think Henrietta’s face is the part you’d prefer looking at. But our dogs, despite being wonderful companions, are also our responsibilities. Our dog, Izzie, has something that makes her lick her hind foot paw pads. Fervently. So far neither a pill nor medicated pads have brought relief. Once the pad meds have been applied deep between her pads, she resumes her licking...
Such are responsibilities. And the realization of the bonds that join us with our canine buddies.
A microcosm of our connections with many varieties of sentient beings.
May they be felt, and relished, today in our comings and goings.
I acutely feel my responsibility for Henny, the sentient beings in my life, and even inanimate objects! Home and possessions. I think that is in large part why I am pulled toward minimalisn. I feel a responsibility for everything I have been given.
The Tao Te Ching says "Ownership is a tax."
I feel this.
Henny has allergies. We tried managing with a drug called Apoquel It helps, but last year I popped for a shot called Cytopoint. It has been a great help to alleviate her itching! Let me know if you want more information. I think I have a pamphlet that explains the science behind the shot. I can send you a picture.
Your comments just now on sentient beings and one’s responsibility reminded me of Thoreau and Walden. While quite isolated from human beings, Thoreau maintained interests in and commitments to worthy causes. I think it was he who observed, “If we own more possessions than can be carried on our backs, we own too much.” (A very rough recall & paraphrase). That seems to speak to the “tax” you wrote of.
On our fidos, Iz was prescribed Apoquel tabs and the wiping pads contain Chlorhexidine and Ketoconazole. I read about Cytopoint and saw there are potential adverse reactions in some cases. Then I searched for recommended natural products as an alternate treatment. Not surprisingly I found ones in treat form containing Omega 3&6 from salmon oil, turmeric, with sunflower and primrose oil.
I see the natural product as perhaps a maintenance product but somewhat unlikely to conquer an extant fungal or bacterial condition. 🤷🏽 So I’ll continue with the present meds a while longer.
A picture of the pamphlet would be helpful, too. 🙏🏽
We tried a natural oral product with Hen -- given 3 times per day. As best I could tell it offered no relief.
In contrast, when Mara was old, achy, and had torn her ACL... we started a natural pill (wish I could recall its name!) that brought relief. Prescribed by the same veterinarian who sorted Mara's mouth problem. I mentioned the natural pill to my neighbor whose elderly dog now takes the medicine -- also finding relief per the neighbor's testimonial.

Love sent to the pup and the her fur-mom. Who would have thought that we need our furry friends as much as they need us.
Love right back to you Pennie! I’m away from Henny for the weekend. Thankfully there’s a big lovable Golden where I’m staying. Woof!
Such a lovely face 😊
I agree! She’s a beauty. Woof!
Almost human…
Probably better. Almost assuredly kinder.
Henny?
She just recently stopped biting us. 😂
LMAO 😂
Such eyes! 🥹
I know, right?
So many over the years have commented on her physical beauty.
