You’re welcome Gary....I can think back to a few kindergarteners who came to school full of red.
I had a conversation this morning where I discussed clean versus dirty (or leading) questions. Fascinating topic! How often do I converse from a leading perspective that causes a conversant to immediately erect a wall—stopping possibility? Something to be aware of, no doubt!
"How often do I converse from a leading perspective.." you rhetorically ask. I would imagine that if the conversant is uncomfortable "disagreeing agreeably," or just not one comfortable with that level of honesty in personal interactions, we fail to get some necessary and helpful feedback. How else might we become aware, or more aware, of such a tendency on our own part? Can we be that self-aware without being preoccupied? What came of your morning conversation on this topic?
Hmmm....let's see how I can answer here. First, I hear and agree with what you've said.
When I wrote this, I was actually in mind of a different conversation I recently shared. If you haven't picked up on it, I'm a bit of a cultural oddity. Primarily because I'm a middle class woman without a paid job. Odd, right?
Anyhow, whenever somebody leads a conversation with me starting from a place of, "What do you do?" followed by real or insinuated questions of, "How do you make money?" I immediately feel my walls go up. I feel like I need to defend my choices.
So....I can completely understand why such questions are asked and have empathy for their origin. My challenge is to find my authentic answers...to be comfortable with my odd duck choices.
The challenge is mine, not the questioners.
Also--such questions have been a gift because I am now more mindful in how I ask questions of others.
I like purple too!
Gorgeous.
Thanks for constructive, positive, hopeful messaging, Gail.
