“Chocolate” falls in there somewhere. 🍫

I’m *pretty* sure…

Somebody back me up?

“Top! Chocolate ice cream goes on top!” Three muses screamed for ice cream.

I read a meme this week that is stuck to me like glue. It said… I want buns of steel, but I really love cinnamon buns.😂 Everything is a choice.

A friend once remarked (when I asked if she used text messages), “Honey, I don’t text. I don’t tweet. I don’t even chirp! Call if you want to talk with me.”

I frequently text and chirp…. So I searched USAISM via Google. I was referred to Twitter. A search there quickly showed that an account bearing that name had been suspended for a violation of Twitter rules!

So I believe our mindset has a strong influence on what we read into certain situations, ruling out possibilities of meaning that don’t square with our world view. Bummer.

I like Lucille Ball’s view of things.

I’m with Lucy, too!

And I can also see where some might be up in arms with USAISM. I understand others bring a whole different set of beliefs and experiences to their interpretation.

I was in a conversation about the word sonder this week. Somebody gave it the metaphor of: Here’s my pile of beliefs… oh! I see you have a pile, too. Let’s compare. Kinda removes the ego factor?

I continue to remind myself to hold my beliefs lightly… and to keep the faith that all shall be well. 😊

Yikes! You’ve done it again; driven me to a fresh Google search to parse “sonder.”

“The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows.” A few lines in and I felt like a friend was whispering new truths in my ear, upon which we tacitly agreed. Was that the wellspring of your recent conversation? If you had not written that word, I’m not sure I would have ever seen it?!

Another Twitter search of “USAISM” found a comment, “Lake Michigan with a Wisconsin sunrise.” Perhaps the truck of this very person? Maybe a scaled down version of “My Pillow Guy?”

Sonder…

A snippet of my history: Starting college in 1967, after a class several black (the “proper reference” at that time) male students engaged with me on the topic of self identification.

They asked for mine. I replied, “American.” (Perhaps still unfamiliar with nuance in those days) The others chuckled! I asked, a bit nonplussed, “And you?” “African” was the reply.

And my point? While our views on the subject differed widely, dialog was possible. Encouraged by professors. While we agreed to disagree (I believed residence/direct contact with the country we identified with was critical; they cited ancestry and the effort to learn of same as sufficient), rancor was not the product of the discussion.

That helped prepare me for the later adoption of African American as the preferred term for nationality. A very different time…

Sonder…

The word was introduced to me via a Seth Godin video which we used as a prompt for our conversation.

Pillow guy?

Thank you for sharing your experience. Perhaps with discussions like the one I was a part of, we'll begin to see a return to sonder... and an end to cancel culture?

Faith and presence...
