In her book, Hazel writes: Belief determines action and action determines identity. Have you investigated the Mind Monster website? Are you aware of limiting beliefs that keep you from growing? Did you find this series valuable?
Gail, I have gone through the website Mind Monster and read some of the bogs others posted there. One thing for certain is we all have our monsters. Once we realize it is not the person or the origin of a mistake which is important but it is how we are going to rectify that mistake which counts, we will be able to keep these monsters under control. Coincidentally, your anecdote 'Fear or Love' posted in your weekly newsletter explains this beautifully.
Thank you Ravi! Your explanation is what I've found to work for changing myself. First, I become aware--second, take responsibility--third, ask what I can learn--and fourth, work to change. When I look at experiences as lessons, they become less about good/bad and more about growth.
Thank you for taking time to add to the conversation!
There is an old saying that you have to have money to make money. What limits me sometimes is the idea of letting go of money, say to invest or what have you.
I know I'm not supposed to be back here until Monday, but....my willpower isn't that strong?
I have that same limiting belief Monty. As long as I can remember, I was taught to be cautious--never spend what you don't have, save for a rainy day, credit is only for a house or car. I actually had a gentleman offer to invest in xSeedingly Satisfying and I couldn't accept the offer because, what if I failed and lost his money? He saw something in the venture that I couldn't see.
How to replace that belief? Have you tried anything? Small investments to start?
Thank you to those who have commented and visited the Mind Monsters website. I’m so honoured that wonderful people (like you, Gail!) have sent in such personal and meaningful contributions. We all have our monsters. Let’s make them the things that bring us together rather than set us apart xxxx
Thank you for making time to visit Born Free and our discussion thread Hazel! I am excited to watch the Mind Monster message spread. When we become self-aware and change ourselves, finding joy in life becomes effortless.
Experimenting with Substack's new feature, and really good at conversing with myself, here I am making the first comment. :) This week at college registration there was a panel of university representatives on stage to answer questions. The moderator called on people who raised hands, but also offered a phone number that the "shy people" could use to text their questions. I'd say the ratio was about 50/50. The experience made me wonder if some of the "shy people" carried limiting beliefs. If I had a question, I might have texted it. ;)
