“We did it.” Urania swished one palm against the other as if she was removing imaginary sawdust.
“Yesterday was like Christmas in April,” Thalia smiled. “The chairs were delivered… albeit in pieces, Wandering Words author copies arrived, and… we purchased a lamp… also unassembled.”
“I think we need to paint the chair legs black.” Calliope stood in the doorway with a wrinkled up nose. She squinted a discerning eye.
“Can do!” Urania felt like an inflated pufferfish after assembling the new brushed nickel standing lamp… and wielding the Allen wrench to tighten what seemed like an uncountable number of bolts.
“Didn’t we receive an email about the stand-off hardware… those little doodads we’ll use to mount a few pieces of Midland Plastics’ discarded plexiglass to the wall?” asked Calliope. “Arriving today?”
“That’s a job for somebody who knows how to use the power tools,” Urania deflated just enough for the crinkles around her eyes to reappear.
“They’ll make great not so white boards,” Thalia chirped. “Wasn’t it great that we came across a prototype at Hobby Lobby and figured out how to make our own?”
“Our names on plexiglass not so white boards… ,” Calliope teased. “Who could ask for more?”
“Perfect!” Urania puffed back up to the shape of a fully inflated balloon.
“What’s that quote from Saint Exupery Tal?” Calliope queried. “About perfection?”
“Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away,” replied the muse of many quotes.
“And with that ladies and gentleman… ,” said Urania, “Today’s BFN is a wrap!”
I'm reminded of a quote from Michelangelo: " Trifles make perfection but perfection is no trifle."
Beautiful office, Gail. Maybe mine will look that nice... several trash bins and 21 years of removed junk later...
