I still remember the shudder when I sensed a knowing as sure as fact—that I might only truly become my fullest self if I explored and stayed open to moving through daunting terrain. ~Sarah Lewis (The Rise)
That’s ridiculous, I thought. Completely unrealistic….
I was watching Designated Survivor.
Kiefer Sutherland, playing newly sworn in POTUS, was late for family dinner at The White House. He smiled and hugged his daughter after she set her box of Corn Puffs next to an undisturbed place setting.
“What are you still doing up?” he asked.
His beautiful wife entered stage left (or right?) and said, “We were waiting up for you.”
Calm…smiles….wayward son does the right thing and unexpectedly appears….while soothing music plays in the background.
Really?????????
Already that day President Kirkland had been to the former president’s funeral, wrangled with his opposition, chosen a Chief of Staff, uplifted the former president’s son…..
Completely unrealistic!
He never once lost his cool!
Gail…That’s what you get for watching television.
From Wikipedia…
Kiefer Sutherland stars as Thomas Kirkman, an American politician named as the designated survivor for the State of the Union address, who suddenly ascends from the position of U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to President of the United States after an explosion kills everyone ahead of him in the presidential line of succession. Kirkman deals with his inexperience as head of state while looking to uncover the truth behind the attack.
Even though it was unrealistic—Who in such a situation could be that calm?
I appreciated the show’s demonstration of love and character.
Family Dinner
Yesterday I found myself short tempered.
On a walk among pines and (too many?) people, I sought avoidance over connection.
Searching my soul, I remembered the video of Lucille and Ethel at the candy factory.
Is it possible to have too much of a good thing?
Okay, okay…I’m getting to my point….
Between Born Free Newsletter, The Creative’s Workshop, friends and family…
My mind is too full?
I can’t keep up?
I’m sacrificing quality for quantity?
Something’s gotta give?
Here’s the thing….
BFN is my comfortable,
welcoming,
family dinner.
Do I need to cut
comfort
for courage?
Have you ever experienced something similar?
Hey everyone!
I’m suspending daily BFN for a while.
Think of me as a kid going off to college.
I might surprise you and show up for a weekend.
Feel free to call or write!
:)
For a moment I thought you started with Cannibalism!! Take care.. just concentrate on TCW, that is the most important thing in life currently.. everything else can wait.. :)
It's a slippery slope between "comfort" and "complacency." Just remember the hazard posed by the Sirens! Those that tempted Odysseus during his 10-year journey home. I'm quite certain I might do my best to imitate one of them;) Well, not to the point of causing your "ship" to crash upon the rocky islands. Just enough to cause your ship to run up on a large sandbar, leaving you to wait for the rising tide! Most of all I'll miss your very recent Born Free Newsletters that seemed to suddenly take on a new look and feel. I hope that arose from "The Creative's Workshop" and that, if so, you will continue that journey. Happy self-actualization!
