“Is wordy a word?” asked the muse of many questions.
“Of course wordy is a word…spell check didn’t light up, did it?” said Urania. “Your photography is a little…ummm…a little…well, not up to your usual standards. Why is half of the cookie blurry?”
“Lighting, maybe? It’s not like I didn’t try…I took a bunch of shots from different angles and edited,” Calliope replied. “And I like the half-blurry/half-crisp sugar granule effect.”
Meanwhile at the table, Tahlia was busy with her #2 Ticonderoga and a free notepad from Trout Unlimited.
She mumbled, “chefery, twolegs, barkhowlbarkbarkbark, scratchnibblescratchscratchscratch…Hey guys—what are some other words we’ve created? I want to run them by a lexicographer…”
“A whatta?” asked Calliope.
“A lexicographer—geez Cal, haven’t you been paying attention while we’re reading Word By Word?” Thalia replied.
“Oh—that!” said Calliope. “I guess my focus is on that ginmo.”
“Ginmo?” asked Urania.
“Duh…ginger molasses cookie…and did you notice the clever placement of the word focus? A gift from above,” Calliope answered. “Get it?”
“Yeah, yeah…the photo,” Urania rolled her eyes.
“So anywho, is that in the dictionary? Spell check does not like it!” Thalia went on, “I think we should send our words off to Massachusetts. Maybe we can get them into Merriam-Webster?”
“Not interested,” said Calliope.
“Me neither,” said Urania.
“But, but…what about ‘living our questions’?” Thalia pressed.
“Let’s live the questions that give us a trifecta of excitement, shall we?” asked the muse of many questions.
“Like ginmos with coffee!” said Thalia and Urania in unison.
“Jinx!” said Calliope. “Now I get to eat yours…”
My Dear Ms. Boenning:
Be advised! Keep coffee under lock and key. I fear your trio of clever muses is rising long before dark thirty, making a pot of java on the sly... and downing the entire thing before you rise!!
That might bode ill for both your writing efforts and your coffee supply. Pretty sure negotiating with your tormentors will only provoke contempt...
On the cookie subject (and they did look scrumptious!) I was reminded of a ginger snap moment from long ago. A friend showed up with a plate of her homemade ginger snaps and the recipe! A random act of kindness thing.
They. Were. Divine!! Having the recipe was my downfall. Fresh from the oven, these were some of the “bet you can’t eat just one” variety. Complete with coarse granules of sugar. Glass of whole cow juice...
So, already fueled with the purloined coffee, presenting the muses with ginmos seems a recipe for disaster. Or great mirth. I pray for the latter. 😋
“Duh…ginger molasses cookie…and did you notice the clever placement of the word focus? A gift from above,” Calliope answered. “Get it?” Brilliant, Gail - er, Calliope! (Gailiope?)
