hoarfrost and rime ice
not words I use every day
nature piqued interest
went to check spelling
hoar comes in more than one form
found rime ice instead
My discovery of ‘rime ice’ this morning (where I’d already made an assumption of hoarfrost) was an excellent reminder of how little I know…and how words carry different shades of meaning as filtered through our life experiences…
and now i have a new word too : )
How right you are; how little I know! This lesson recalled for me a comment from long ago: “Eskimos have 40 different words for our word, ‘Snow.’ “
Then I checked for “Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner,” by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Yup! It was actually “Rime of the Ancient Mariner.” Not totally unlike one of Edgar Allen Poe’s opium-fueled works... but still pertaining to the “rime” you speak of today.
In one shot, looking at the trees across an open field, I selected and zoomed in for better detail. And was astonished by how well the details held up with my zoom! Shot with your iPhone? Pixels galore! Unexpectedly rich detail.
“Idle minds” (mine) truly are the devil’s workshop! Thanks for opening the “door” today.
