A member of our Born Free Community asked…
Could you give me more details on the story of Calliope, Thalia and Urania? I want to understand and reflect on the message you are sending.
Dear Ravi,
The idea of the muses was a gift from another reader…my friend Stuart. I cannot recall our original exchange. A conversation and a few fledgling muse stories led to this piece I wrote almost four years ago…The Gift of Belief.
I once read a book called The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haidt. Within the pages, I learned that our minds quite possibly tuck away more than the laptop I am typing on could ever hold in its memory.
That piece of us is called our subconscious—a rich and magical place—where Calliope, Urania and Thalia live. They are part and parcel of everyone I have ever met, every experience I have ever had, every place I have ever gone. When they show up to play, I am more than I could ever be with my conscious mind alone. I invite them to join me every morning when I write BFN.
They really like to ‘ham it up’ when they are the stars. ;)
I hope that answers your question.
Love,
G
I loved your muses in your Medium posts, Gail, and was pleased to see them taking up residence (okay, adding their input) to BFN.
If your muses ever need a change of pace - seasonal affective disorder from long, cold winter nights, for example - I’d welcome their presence to complement my uninspired conscious brain! I don’t see a downside to receiving too much creative inspiration.
As always, eating the ivy...
