My gaze is best utilized, turned toward gratitude.

Why so serious?
a matter of recognizing
we build our shared lives

life happens to us?
Someone said "take life seriously but not yourself". Rilke "nearby is the country called life... you will not it by its seriousness"
Priviledge is a gift for some. Suffering a study by Buddah was found everywhere. Those who have the least, seem willing to give the most. A study by your sister. It is easy to be grateful when the challenges life throws at you are minimal. It is much more difficult when you are on the first rung of Maslow's Hierarchy. Can you be grateful for the shit that comes before the rose? What if all that life seems to hand you is the shit and the rose never comes? The real question is how much grace do those that have share with those who seem to be covered in the shit of misfortune day after day? My heart still is attached to the children I served in a Guyana orphanage. Water seems so simple when we turn on the tap and it flows freely. No water for children on earth's equator for 3 days in a row, unbearable to watch, as cooks scramble to even know what rations to feed with nothing to drink, to children skeletons with big smiles on their faces grateful to just have a snuggle in a lap. The haves take for granted all that they have, they forget what it feels like to go hungry or thirsty of day in unbearable heat. And there are those who have to live the bible story of Job, he once had it all and now he has nothing not even his health. Are you in times of someone's stress and suffering the reason to be their gratitude? Those that have seem to live in more fear than those who have nothing. When there is nothing to lose but life itself even that may seem like a blessing. Sometimes you need to give a man a fish before you can teach him to fish, Jesus knew this and tried to teach it. But those who have been richly blessed generally turn a blind eye away from those who have suffering in their lives. I wonder why that is? For my richest moments in life have been those Ice spent sharing a glass of water and teaching a man to fish. The gift of suffering took root in my life so that I always know just to be alive is a reason to have gratitude. I love you.
