“Bon Jovi?” asked Calliope. “Today’s title?”
“If the song fits,” replied Urania with a sigh.
“When Hen started down the back hill at the pace of a slow trot…we thought we could catch her,” said Thalia.
“She even had her foot on the orange, trailing lead for a moment. It must have slipped under her boot through the snow,” said Calliope.
“Our hearts were already racing from the adrenaline rush — and running at a full sprint through the heavy, melting snow — well, let’s just say we’re not in Wonder Woman shape,” said Urania breathlessly.
“The donuts,” Thalia and Calliope nodded in unison.
“So when Henny broke off the trail into the brush…,” Thalia continued.
“We stopped,” said Urania.
“All’s well that ends well?” asked Calliope.
“We did talk to some nice people — at the sheriff’s office, and walkers over on Center Drive,” said Urania.
“And now we have a new GPS collar on the way,” said Thalia.
“We’re attached to the smelly little trouble maker, aren’t we?” asked Calliope.
“Yes, and…life would be plain toast without butter if we had no emotions,” said Urania.
“I found that quote we were looking for the other day. Can I share it?” asked Calliope.
“Share away…,”
If you can feel everything, you can do anything. ~Peter Bregman (Emotional Courage)
Bon Jovi? Del Shannon. 1961... oops! Feeling older by the second, which is how it happens.
As for the GPS collar, I picture a high-tech drone to go with it. Once the target is acquired, the drone begins dropping mini-biscuits to entice Henny out of the woods and back to the safekeeping of the Muses. The payload capacity of the drone might be an important consideration...
Your comment on "heavy, melting snow" brought back memories of the resulting earthy muck that came next as the frozen ground "slipped the surly bonds" of Winter to join the celebration of
Spring, "When faces called flowers float out of the ground." John Gillespie McGee, Jr. and E. E. Cummings, respectively.
After checking the lyrics to Bon Jovi's song, I now see the better fit to Henny. Bon Jovi's girl in the song, however, would not have worn the GPS collar!
