“I just love the color changing pens Typist purchased on a whim!” Thalia drew straight lines, squiggles, and shapes with nothing but her own sense of beauty guiding the ballpoints.
A couple of days ago while listening to experts expound on best practices for selling more books, Typist doodled and pondered the quality of what she was hearing. She thought some of what was being said had merit… she had already incorporated a few techniques into her own personal style. Several approaches caused her to raise her eyebrows because the suggestions fit her like size 4T clothes on an eight-year-old — confining. One or two modes rubbed against her grain like course sandpaper.
“Yes, and… even though Typist has adopted the motto Neither a Guru Nor a Follower Be, it’s good that she sampled — grist for the thinking mill,” the Muse of Determination said.
“Isn’t it fascinating how the memory of Typist’s sixth grade teacher popped up last night? The young instructor gave her class an assignment to re-write the lyrics to Pink Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall using correct grammar,” said the Muse of Many Questions. “She had a real hang up with the word ain’t. Ugh! That was brutal.”
“Does anybody else see some irony between the teacher’s chosen song and her assignment?” Thalia shrugged.
Urania threw out a question before disappearing into the garden. “Is there a sweet spot where creativity and conformity meet — individuals fitting like puzzle pieces into an ever-shifting landscape?”
