“Ugh! What a struggle to come up with something to write about today,” Thalia whined. “Can’t we just go outside?”
“We’ve already been outside,” Cal replied.
“You know what A.A. Milne’s bear Pooh said about poetry and hums… You can’t just pull them out of thin air. You have to go where they can find you.” Thalia started lacing her shoes. “Wasn’t it fun that Typist’s father called yesterday after reading one of our stories in which we mentioned that Typist’s shoes often untie themselves? Dad offered a suggestion… tying square instead of granny knots… said he learned the trick from one of his PE teachers.”
“And right after that we had a conversation with friends that prompted us to consider what our work rhymes with. What does your work remind people of… What’s their way in?”
“Yeah… we’ve had that question before and struggled with it. Our writing is a mish-mash of everything that came before the words Typist types. Add a dash of feeling and poetry and hums appear,” Cal said. “So feelings add the fairy dust?”
“Does our work remind people of simple pleasures?” asked Thalia. “And feelings are the way in? We can can connect them to a sunrise, a conversation… or Winnie the Pooh? A fourleg, an autumn leaf… or a parent? That’s not so hard. Best to not overcomplicate things.”
Urania looked up from her book. “Nicely done. Tie your attention to the solutions — not the problems.”
“Oh dear,” said Pooh. Today’s questions posed by the Muses feels like dodging rounds from a Gatling gun! “Granny knots.” “Square knots?” After all that business with knots we’re advised to “tie your attention to the solutions.”
Kinda thinking about Velcro…

Yup! 😊
