remember when…
boy chose me
out of all the trinkets
in the tourist town gift shop
I fit his budget and his taste
remember when…
big toothy fourleg chose me
out of all the toys, shoes, socks, and floor litter
my rear left leg and and one antler carry the scars
boy was soooooo angry!
remember when…
boy chose different
gadgets and toys with more bells and whistles
you tied a ribbon around my neck and placed me on the mantle
a seasonal decoration
remember when…
last weekend you lifted me out of the plastic bin
and decided I spark enough joy to hang out
on the mantle for another winter
That’s great!
And after all these years together, I have one request…
Will you please quiet the new barkhowlbarkbarkbark fourleg?
She makes it incredibly difficult to write!
Dear reader…If you decorate for the holidays, may you find meaning and joy in your plastic bins.
I'm reminded of "Puff the Magic Dragon".
Hi Gail -- loved this post this morning!
Christmas tradition growing up was a tree decorated one at a time by the kids and using only hand made and "special" decorations.
Each kid took turns one decoration at a time. Each with a story and memory.
Its fun to think in terms of the decorations' story and to be reminded of how tradition builds family/community and reliability and confidence can also come from things we leave in boxes 10 months of the year.
