Thalia consulted her fashion manual. “It says a wide-brimmed straw hat would be appropriate… I don’t think Typist has a straw hat… does she?”
“She doesn’t.” Urania swiveled her head from side to side. “Only a faded black baseball cap that’s about as old and disheveled as her untended strawberry patch. Would you look at all of those weeds! And not one single flower or berry.”
“Is that why we’re heading north to pick Honeoye with her father?” asked the Muse of Many Questions.
“Yes… and… It’s really more about the opportunity to spend time together,” Urania answered. “Her dad seems really excited that we’re coming. Today is the first day the field is open for picking and the weather couldn’t be more perfect.”
“Biggest berries are in the first picking!”
“Sorry readers… we gotta go! We’ll share pictures tomorrow!”
“It is going to be a great day.”
Wonderful piece -- came at exactly the right time....I, too, am anticipating that most wonderful hat and fashion statement and also heading out as I am in beloved old fleece and faded baseball cap.....Thanks -- Louise
Replete with ideas and energy, this BFN. The last sentence, "It is going to be a great day," exhibiting the power of intention. Then "word power" prompts "Honeoye?" From a gardening family, we grew two varieties of berries. The June berries were large, lacking in flavor, and too light on the interior to resemble "real" strawberries. Those gave way to "Ogallala" everbearing ones. Night and day difference! Though a bit smaller, the color ran thru and thru. The flavor? Outstanding!
But the gold standard for strawberry aroma and flavor were teeny wild strawberries that grew in the back corner of an abandoned piece of pasture near our home. Rarely more than a half-inch in diameter (usually three-eighth of an inch), filling our coat hanger-handled Crisco cans was usually impossible. (my older brother and I were the assigned pickers) These usually became a round of strawberry shortcake and the rest for the best ever jam!
But I digress on all fronts... Enjoy the picking and time with your Dad.
