And after the conversation…I took Henrietta for a walk at Mukwonago County Park where campers called an exuberant “Good Morning!” from their site to my ears. What I guessed to be a father/adult son pair was preparing a meal on a camp stove. The smell transported me to childhood camping memories. I LOVE that smell!
“Good morning!” I called back. “Your single person tents are so cute—never saw that before. Have a great day!”
“You, too!” they called as Henny and I walked on.
After our walk, we hit up the Mukwonago County Dog Park where Henny invited chases from the most beautiful and gentle silver goldendoodle.

Annual park stickers…
our passports to adventure.
There is a delight in the hardy life of the open. There are no words that can tell the hidden spirit of the wilderness that can reveal its mystery, its melancholy and its charm. The nation behaves well if it treats the natural resources as assets which it must turn over to the next generation increased and not impaired in value.
- Speech by Theodore Roosevelt in Osawatomie, Kansas, August 31, 1910.
What a smorgasbord of ideas and inspiration! Of course I’m not surprised anymore. Cooking on a camp stove and the smells...nothing better! For backpacking I used a tiny, one-burner, gas stove And took smoked sausage and fresh eggs for the first morning’s breakfast. The quote from Teddy Roosevelt was thought provoking! Thanks, Gail!
I believe your park sticker observation is directly related to being a child of the 70’s and seeing station wagons covered in travel stickers.
Everyone had a Wall Drug sticker back then....
