“I told you we needed to get those pebbles out of our slippers,” said Thalia.
“It wasn’t metaphorical pebbles that had us kissing the concrete in the dark Tal, it was ice,” said Urania.
“Are you sure?…because we talk a lot about attitude and how even our thoughts seep out and affect everyone around us…karma,” added Calliope.
“No…I’m not sure,” Thalia hrmphhhhhed. “But I struggle to connect a few grouchy thoughts to our bruised hips, hands, and egos.”
“A few?” Calliope raised her eyebrows. “We were even irritated at yoga — by that newbie on the mat behind us.”
“She was loud and bubbly…talking during class…not at all like us,” said Urania.
“We can be loud and bubbly,” said Calliope.
Thalia squinted and Urania raised her eyebrows.
They weren’t buying it.
“The good news is…snap, crackle, and pop have moved out of the right side and into the left,” Calliope continued. “Now what are we going to do with those pebbles?”
“Just watch them…be aware…and like all feelings, they’ll move on,” said Urania.
“Now let’s eat a healthy breakfast and get to work. We’ve got a book to format,” said Thalia.
“Healthy?” Calliope and Urania asked in unison.
“Jinx…,” said Calliope with the enthusiasm of a box turtle. “You can have mine.”
Perhaps my cold morning (it’s all relative) has rendered my brain “molasses in February!” I need help with the symbolism!!
“Metaphorical pebbles out of slippers?” Irritated state of being lodged in one’s brain??
“Snap, crackle, pop...”. Irritated thoughts and actions caused by pebbles?
“...out of the right side and into the left...”. Hemispheres of our brains?
All precipitated by an actual fall during a mandatory Henny-Muse outing in the dark of night? My trusty LED headlamp could help with ice detection in winter and spider eye sightings in summer.
Pebble management? I’d probably try my heavy duty shop vac, but molasses loss is a concern...
These musings are so delightful to read, Gail, and I'll bet they're also earning you some valuable points with nine particular personages, too! From a technical standpoint this is also a brilliant device to explore, and that side is enjoyable for me to read, too. This encounter with the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne also shines a light on an experience I had recently of recovering a childhood memory through the process of composing a poem. I have been spending some time with Terpsichore recently, and I bet she would have some good wisdom about pebbles in one's shoes!
