Dear Erin,
I had reason to pause and think about connection yesterday — how shared experiences can bridge gaps in time and space.
A member the extended Boenning family — we’ll call him Agent Z — embarked on a new adventure thousands of miles away from home. He’ll likely not be back anytime soon. Another member of our family sent out a group message in recognition of Agent Z’s journey. The sender of the message recalled his move to a new state decades ago, along with the feelings of fear that came from stepping into the unknown. Because he’d had a similar experience, there was understanding, and an urge to encourage. Beautiful.
You were on my mind,
I knew you were the haiku creator for today’s gratitude letter.
My neurons pulled a memory from the filing cabinet that’s called my brain.
When your cousin (my kid… Man-Child N) went to college, you sent him a care package in honor of his journey. His mom didn’t send him a package! But you did…
There was something about the shared experience of being let loose on a college campus that moved you to reach out. Your generosity of action touched me deeply… and I didn’t even receive the gift! :)
We can all bring out the best in one another, if only we open our eyes to see?
Now… about your kitchen work…. TEXMEXYANKEE! You are melting pot of flavors, creating and sharing edible works of art that make me want to eat truffles, and cookies, and stollen — oh my!
Your patience, persistence and hope… Your creativity, kindness, and extraordinary care for your fourlegs… all make me want to be a better person.
Gratitude and Love,
Auntie Gail
