“Nice photo composition,” said Thalia. “What does market magic mean?”
“Well…she jotted the note in a meeting about…a meeting…funny, right?” Urania replied.
“Magic meetings? Marvelous, masterful, mystic, macho, mini, must…,” Calliope was pulling out every M word she could think of…practicing her alliteration skills.
“Wow! Who knew a book about writing dictionaries would have such a big impact on us?” asked Urania. “Yesterday we read about how editors have letters they love and letters they disdain—personal preferences, of course.”
“Did we read that the letter S takes up 1/10th of the entire Merriam-Webster?” asked Thalia.
“I think so…and can we get back to magic meetings please? and…merci beaucoup…French has M words, too!” said Calliope.
“The idea of marketing magic has to do with meetings where the focus is on listening over speaking,” said Urania. “How many times have we been in a meeting where one, or three, or five, voices dominate and everyone else is lost in their own mind—searching for their opportunity to add their thoughts and opinions?”
“And some people are never heard at all…because they’re too polite or timid to talk over…or push their way in,” added Thalia.
“So the idea of marketing magic has to do with structuring conversations so that all voices get heard…right?” asked Urania.
“Yes, and…a structure makes space for more attentive listening,” said Calliope.
“And that’s magic because we learn when we listen…when we speak we are knowing,” said Thalia.
How does one listen and yet insure that all voices are heard? "When we speak we are knowing". Is this true when one is asking a question?
I can't wait to hear what the muses have to say! And....the synchronicity of this piece when I have a character scribbling such notes in a boring meeting is beyond belief -- so hooray for this story and cannot wait until tomorrow!
