“Henny!” I called from the fence. “C’mon! Let’s walk the perimeter one more time.”
You might find this hard to believe, but my fourleg ignored me.
Mack heard me though… and… listened?
The adorable, howling, brown beagle-Basset mix came trotting toward me on short legs. I called to Mack’s twoleg, “Is it okay if your dog walks around the circle with me?”
“Sure,” he called back from his seat on the wooden bench.
“Let’s go Mack!” The pup blinked at me… reconsidering his decision.
His twoleg got up and jogged over. “C’mon Mack… Let’s walk.”
In a few short minutes, I learned Mack’s twoleg will be a high school senior in the fall and is an aspiring musician. He will graduate a semester early and intends to pursue a career in music. He already performs at a number of local venues and even has a spot at The Big Gig — Milwaukee’s Summerfest is known worldwide.
“Where can I find you?” I asked. “Do you have a website?”
“Yeah… Emmett Mulrooney.com,” he said.
I checked out his website and will make it to one of his performances this summer.
Perhaps if you give his music a listen and like it, you’ll send him a comment? Wouldn’t you love it if somebody did that for you?
Together we rise.
I checked out Emmett's music, and he's amazing! I bought one of his songs (would have bought the whole album, but the one I liked wasn't on Apple Music). And I messaged him on FB to tell him you hooked me up with his music. You and I both get extra writer karma points!
Inspiring as always! Sufficient to unlock a flood of memories and thoughts.
“Together we rise” posed the rhetorical question if it is possible to view all the world’s people as just one big tribe? That in turn recalled “We Are The World” from the mid eighties. The lyric, “We are all part of God’s great big family,” was a good summation (IMHO) of the overall vision for We Are The World.
That cause aimed to provide relief for famine in Africa. But is not the giver, as well as the recipient, blessed in equal measure?
Watching the YouTube video of “USA For Africa” I saw on stage, for that moment, an example of a tribe of diverse members: Willie Nelson and Michael Jackson. Tina Turner and Kenny Rogers. Stevie Wonder and Dan Aykroyd. Hall and Oats and the Pointer Sisters. And many others.
Together we rise!
