“Can we play a game today?” Calliope’s eyes were bright and eager.
Urania’s posture stiffened. She waited for the punchline.
“What if… Thalia — Please stop singing. I can’t hear myself think.”
Thalia dumped a cup of sparkling letter cutouts onto a sheet of white paper. “I think I know where you’re going with this!” The Muse of Wit spelled out lost and found as if by magic. How did she find the letters she needed in that explosion of sparkle?
Calliope began again. “How about if we imagine everything that happens today — the sights we see, the people we meet, any bumps or bruises along the way,”
“Brought on by Henrietta, no doubt.” Despite her look of disinterest, Nia was listening to every word. “Or another twist or sprain from one of those fallen black walnuts littering the yard.”
“Stop interrupting!” Cal surprised herself with the tone in her voice. She paused for a deep breath. “The game is to believe that everything that happens today is helping us to find our way forward… to our next adventure, or story, or friendship. Can we do that?”
“Yes!” Thalia twirled.
“Yes.” Nia tucked a pencil behind her ear and a pad of Post-its into her pocket.

I hadn't read this BFN this morning before I headed out to do some random acts of kindness. "Helping me find my way forward". Hmmm.
A membership application? How many letters of reference?? Birth certificates?! Life can often have that feeling. No post it notes, but I have a pen to dot my eyes. Who goes first?
