quiet, calm, no wind
purple parka’s hood swallowed
ruckus under hat
open channel left
space for wisdom from above
whoo-whooo; an owl’s call
“Well…if I say so myself…our haiku are a perfect link to what we read about Thoreau. It’s good to know we’re not alone in our quest for presence…people have been aware and attempting for generations,” said Thalia.
I am alarmed when it happens that I have walked a mile into the woods bodily, without getting there in spirit. In my afternoon walk I would fain forget all my morning occupations and my obligations to Society. But it sometimes happens that I cannot easily shake off the village. The thought of some work will run in my head and I am not where my body is — I am out of my senses. In my walks I would fain return to my senses. What business have I in the woods, if I am thinking of something out of the woods? ~Henry David Thoreau
“Thoreau? I’d rather talk about the De Mello story,” said Calliope. “You know…about the eagle who was raised by chickens? His whole life he pecked and scratched the dirt. One day the old “rooster” watched a majestic eagle soaring in the sky and wished for such freedom. He died believing he was a chicken.”
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. ~Marianne Williamson
Urania wanted to be heard…“Ladies…I know that blasted dog has slept through three nights in a row and we’ve had good rest…I’m grateful…and there are doughnuts on the counter. Can we just lighten up a little bit? It’s New Year’s Eve!”
Honestly, I don’t know how you manage to get anything done! The incessant yammering of your muses, if that’s what they really are, (The Three Witches of MacBeth sometimes comes to mind) must take perfect concentration for your creative efforts! No; merely being silly here. You know what I really think of them and it’s all good.
So best wishes to you and the crew for a Happy New Year!
Wishing you and yours (figment & physical) a Happy 2020, Gail!
