“Woo-hoo!” Thalia threw her hands up in the air and shook it like she just didn’t care… well she did care… but she also really liked the title of Pitbull’s song.
Typist scurried off to YouTube to watch a video and listen to the music… ummm, not really an LP she’d select for herself… and yet she’s aware muses are going to do what muses are going to do… sometimes taking dictation is annoying business.
“What on earth took her so long to get to the library!” Urania grumbled. “June 7th!… the library accepted the book on April 21st! Typist should have been at the library on April 22nd with her camera. We need a marketing manager.”
“We have one,” Thalia giggled. “Remember… we wrote a story about her for Meandering Muses… a mother-in-law who took Wandering Words to the local Barnes and Noble. That makes the highlight reel of Typist’s life.”
“Language and literature, language and literature, language and literature.” Calliope rolled in the words as if she was once again a ten-year-old child reading Stone Soup to her peers who sat criss-cross applesauce on her hometown library’s carpeted basement floor. “Literature is a technology… to help us deal with our unruly brains — Angus Fletcher says so in Wonderworks.”
“And now Wandering Words shares shelf space with The Wander Society… remember the opening line from Wandering Words… From the library shelf it whispered, ‘Pick me.’ Who was I to refuse such a request? For books had chosen me a time or two before and changed me for the better. And so it was that The Wander Society by Keri Smith and I traveled home together.” Thalia felt sweeter than the tiramisu in the basement refrigerator.
“Of course we remember… we wrote it!” Was Urania… shaking it? Typist raised her eyebrows… Urania does not shake it. First time for everything?
As Calliope started down the stairs she called, “Three little words for the Readers girls… Follow the Energy… it knows where you’re going. Tiramisu for breakfast?”
I love this! I wish everyone would request a copy at their local library. People everywhere need to reflect (more) on everything, and your book makes readers do just that. I've filled a request form at my local library... It's my good deed for my community.
