“Really Mom?!” squawks one of the brood.
“Another spider?” cries a second.
“Can’t you find us some snails or caterpillars?” a third grumbles.
“Or, a grasshopper?” the quietest of the crew mumbles.
“Ungrateful,” an exhausted mother mutters to her equally exhausted mate.
“This too shall pass?” Dad questions. “When they fledge, they will learn that freedom is always coupled with responsibility. We chose to make them… right now it is our duty to get them through their adolescence as best we can.”
Almost every year I am gifted a front row seat to the raising-of-wrens.
I continue to learn how to bring my imagination to what I see.
