Twolegs…What’s a parade?
Collar?
Leash?
I’m in!
Over the last several months of quarantine I might have mentioned a new camaraderie with neighbors on walks….neighbors I usually only wave to through window glass. At around 6:15 am on weekdays, neighbors Dave, Jake, and Mark meet up with retrievers Addie, Riley and Gracie to walk. Henrietta rises up onto her hind legs like a circus bear as we approach the group. The scene tickles me.
July 4th
Somebody has organized a subdivision parade.
Printed signs.
Spread the word.
Everyone is welcome.
Henri’s gonna LOVE it!
In Fortitude by Dan Crenshaw, the author writes about the benefits of suffering:
If finding your own hardship is beneficial, then finding it with others is even better. There’s a reason CrossFit gyms charge preposterous sums for the privilege of making groups of people come together and do simple exercises until they vomit. People aren’t paying for the exercise—though many of them will insist up and down that they are. People are paying for the most precious thing we all yearn for inside: COMMUNITY.
America is more than a place.
It’s an idea….
of community
and belonging.
Did you ever search for ping pong balls dropped from a helicopter?
I did!
You can read more about it here.
Happy 4th of July!
For the love of a dog
Happy 4th, Gail & Henri! I hope somebody had enough hands free for a photo or seven!
Happy Fourth! The ping pong ball drop seems like a treat for Henrietta, too! Community? So often we hear of apartment dwellers not knowing next door neighbors. Why? No front porch! Not joking. The developer of “Seaside” in the Florida panhandle was certain of it, and required every home to have not only a front porch but minimum separation from the sidewalks. People sit on their porches. And greet passers by. And beautiful pastel paint schemes for the homes.
