What gets in the way of your curiosity?
The biggest curiosity thief I know is unconsciously repeating the same tasks, in the same way, day in and day out.
It’s like the pictures on the walls of my home that have been hanging in the same spots for twenty years. They are comfortable and do not ask anything of me. Unchallenged, I no longer notice the pier at sunset, a bare tree alone in a winter farm field, or five yellow Labrador puppies milling around a pond.
Henrietta is the same way. Her basket of toys sits untouched until… I toss in a new ball that squeaks or a fresh, soft, stuffed plushie. Sometimes all I need to do is move the basket.
I used to believe comfortable and familiar were reasons to hold on tight…
don’t change a thing.
Now I believe a little discomfort brings a lot of joy.
Learning is tons of fun!
What will you do to eradicate your habits that prevent curiosity?
Eradicate feels like a strong word choice…
I will do my best to be conscious of my thoughts and feelings at all times.
I will continue to experiment… big and small… move a picture, paint a wall, read a book to challenge my thinking, publish a book, try to market a book, lead a study group. Keep going.
I can walk around the block backwards — oops, I did that once and troubled a poor teen driver who didn’t know what to do as I had my earbuds in and almost walked backwards into his car. (Note to self… when walking backwards, stay on the side of the road — no earbuds.)
I will do my very best to sprinkle humor throughout my days.
Too serious is also a curiosity killer?
