Great question. I imagine with folks insisting on “safe” places in college and other settings, reading Gothic literature in elementary school could pose a “threat”. I am not one to equate Gothic material with graphic violence.
As a child I loved vivid, supernatural reading material. I don’t believe that left a negative impact on my life. If today’s rating system for movies were applied to Sleepy Hollow, I think a “G” rating would result.
As Hallowe’en approaches, the dark leaf struck me as the botanical embodiment of Ichabod Crane.
