“We have a new assignment!” Thalia twirled, tapped, and clapped. “I just love setting sail with an experiment.”
“Experiment?” Calliope worried a tissue to pieces between her index finger and thumb. “What experiment?”
“We have been assigned,” Urania cleared the gunk from her throat. “We are now Typist’s Awareness Team.”
“Awareness Team?” Calliope squeaked.
“You know… Social media, stopping into libraries and book stores, telling people about our books. We’re only inches away from publishing Flourishing Fictions now! Typist uploaded its manuscript to the book formatting software yesterday.” Despite her chapped nose and runny eyes, Thalia somehow managed to exude untamed beauty.
Nia thumbed through several pages of her notebook. “So we’ll be the front women. Typist is tasked with learning how to paint us… Or, things that represent us. We each have our own color shade. Clever — our colors match the trilogy. Wandering Words is red, Meandering Muses is purple, and Flourishing Fictions will be green.”
“Sounds… terrifying and exciting at the same time. Ahhhhhh-chooo!” Cal wiped away bits of tissue that stuck to her nose. “I guess Typist’s sitting in front of the heating vent while watching Charlie’s Angels as a kid is now proving useful?”
“So… a little contest?” Thalia’s bloodshot eyes twinkled. “We’ll send the first three readers to correctly associate Calliope, Urania, and Thalia with their color — red, purple, or green — a Typist autographed copy of Meandering Muses.”
Urania offered the nitty gritty. “The response must happen in the comment thread of this newsletter titled: being seen. Please use this format: muse=color, muse=color, muse=color. If we do not already have the winner’s mailing addresses, we’ll collect them privately via email.”
“And we’re off!” Thalia cartwheeled out of the studio. “Contest closes at sundown today.”
Thalia=Red. Urania=Purple. Calliope=Green. Achoo!
Oh dear. I am not a color person, and Deb (my go-to color advisor) doesn’t know the muses. So:
Thalia=Green. Urania=Purple. Calliope=Red.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
