An analogy for love?
What a playful question!
I replied…
Love is like my knee-high rubber boots in spring. They are reliable, keep my feet warm and dry, and understand when I wear another pair of shoes. They are not flashy or showy…they simply get the job done.
What did you mean when you said, “…they understand when I wear another pair of shoes?”
I used to be a jealous person—afraid of being left behind. Thankfully I am past that phase.
True love makes space for growth and exploration…it does not cling or try to control.
I guess that’s not what I learned about love while watching As the World Turns and The Guiding Light — poor role models.
…
Adding to my analogy…
Love is like my knee-high rubber boots in spring…
giving and receiving love takes me places
I’d never dare go without it.
What else can I tell you? It seems to me that everything has its proper emphasis; and finally I want to add just one more bit of advice: to keep growing, silently and earnestly, through your whole development; you couldn’t disturb it any more violently than by looking outside and waiting for outside answers to questions that only your innermost feeling, in your quietest hour, can perhaps answer. ~Rainer Maria Rilke

Love (with, for, and from my wife) is like my psychotropic medication — keeps me focused, keeps me happy, keeps me (acting) sane... and ohhhh, so addictive! ❤️
