I’ve forgotten orange collar’s name
let’s call her June

pink collar
is Henrietta

Henrietta deserted me at the dog park yesterday
I don’t know why
she becomes blind and deaf to the hands and heart that feed her
like a teenager at prom (or in my case—a fishing tournament)
parents cease to exist

anyhow….

while Henny was off socializing
a fenced acre or more away from me
I reached down wanting to introduce myself to June
while cooing…..
you could be Henri’s twin!

June
growled
at
me
and
backed
away

what?!?!

I tried not to take offense
and moved on
as a coolish morn
called dozens
of pups and owners to play

later…..

I spied Henny
with June

June was not growling?!?!

I met June’s twolegs
and fourleg labradoodle
big brother
who sported a blue mohawk haircut
matching his blue collar

two twolegs chatted
found both had recently lost
beloved labrador retrievers
integrating new pups into long held routines

June’s trainer said…..
June is the laziest pup he’s ever seen

I said….
Henrietta is the wildest pup I’ve ever seen

to keep the world spinning
it takes all kinds of kinds?
