Urania strolled into the studio with a 5x8 legal pad and #2 Ticonderoga. “Pots planted. Check. Mowing complete. Check. Stone rabbit perfectly placed on front stoop. Check. Meandering Muses in the hands of our edi… ,”
“Editor,” Calliope squeaked. She felt flutter chills dance across her biceps.
Urania broke her carefully crafted and practiced role of task master, allowing a smile to erase her frown lines. “Check.”
“Now what?” asked Thalia.
“Well for starters, it’s time we get back to writing regular newsletters.” Urania scribbled furiously on her pad. “How is anybody going to know we wrote a book if we don’t talk about it?”
“And we’re getting lovely feels from Wandering Words — encouragement to keep going? Typist met a group of friends for dinner last night and… Can you believe one of her friends bought multiple copies of WW and gave one to everybody at the table?” asked the Muse of Many Questions.
Thalia glowed.
Calliope blushed.
Urania scribbled.
“Our timing couldn’t be better.” Thalia picked up a hefty hardcover titled Wonderworks. “Author Angus Fletcher refers to literature as a technology. He says, ‘Thus it was that literature’s technology distinguished itself from Neolithic axes and Bronze Age plows and other creations forged of metal, stone, and bone. While those creations turned outward to grapple with the problem of surviving in our world, literature turned inward to grapple with the problem of surviving as ourselves.’ Girls… It’s time to bake the donuts.”
“We shall treat it gently Cal.” Nia reassured the muse who’d begun to shrink into her chair’s upholstery. “Spreading awareness, not self-aggrandizing promotion… okay?”
“But… but… weeding? Isn’t weeding on your list?” Calliope squeaked.
“Yes, it is.” Urania pointed to her neatly printed text. “We’ll make time for both.”
Thank you man upstairs for the gentle nudge to get back at it.
One among our BFN community had knee replacement surgery yesterday. Take a second to send out a wish for vigorous healing?
Thanks for the call for healing wishes, typist! Post-op day 1 was pretty rough, but it will only get better from here. There's never enough time for writing and gardening, is there? Sounds like you have a pretty good balance, and I look forward to Meandering Muses! BTW - Love that quote by Angus Fletcher.
