A Natural

I blinked eyes open
mass
of muscle
sinew
bone
fur
slept
through entire night?!
not a barkhowlbarkbarkbark
nor a scratchnibblescratchscratchscratch
Henny’s nose bears cuts
thick blades of grass
scalped fur around her eyes
she slept
full
content
after a day
in the arena
in her dreams
is nose to ground
tail wagging
at warp speed?
Henrietta flushed her first pheasant yesterday.
Have you ever watched somebody execute their work…intense, focused, seemingly without effort?
I’ve observed…Olympic speedskaters power around an oval. They make it look like a walk in the park. My own hip kissing ice was a clear wake-up to the skill required and gained (or not) through energized practice.
Not my jam, so I let that go.
I’ve observed…a human balancing on their forearms, back bending, toes reaching for their buttocks like a scorpion. Not effortless…I know because I keep walking toward the goal. I might, or might not, ever get there…and I’m filled with an urge to keep going.
I’ve observed myself…and I continue to learn what speaks to me.
Yesterday on my mat I listened to Sarah talk about new yoga students and their desire to know if they are doing poses “right”.
She asked…
What if we set aside right and wrong to consider effective and not effective?
I like that question much.
Where does your energy lead you?
Is your practice effective?
